Development of the mobile tactical shooter has ended
Ubisoft will shut down Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Mobile on January 15, 2027, ending development of the free-to-play tactical shooter roughly a year after its global launch.
The company announced the sunset this week. The title rolled out globally in February as a mobile spinoff of the Rainbow Six franchise, making the closure decision remarkably fast for a live-service product in Ubisoft's portfolio.
Despite the shutdown, players will receive one more content drop. Ubisoft confirmed the final season will release next week as originally planned.
What changes for players and for Ubisoft?
For players, the timeline is now fixed: seasons stop after the final release, and the servers go dark on January 15, 2027. For Ubisoft, the decision adds another mobile casualty to a segment where the publisher has repeatedly struggled to convert its flagship franchises into sustained free-to-play revenue on smartphones.
Rainbow Six Mobile attempted to translate the tactical, operator-based shooter formula of Rainbow Six Siege into a free-to-play mobile format. That translation has now failed to earn a continued investment from Ubisoft.
The move also raises questions about how Ubisoft plans to allocate resources across its live-service slate, and whether other mobile projects based on core franchises face similar scrutiny in the coming quarters.
Worth watching: whether Ubisoft details any compensation or migration path for Rainbow Six Mobile players before the January 2027 shutdown, and what the company says about its broader mobile strategy in its next earnings update.
