Ubisoft to shut down Rainbow Six Mobile on January 15, 2027

Ubisoft will end service for Rainbow Six Mobile on January 15, 2027, roughly 11 months after global launch. The closure follows 15 seasons and about $1.6M in early post-launch spending.

Patch notes

  • Rainbow Six Mobile shuts down on January 15, 2027

  • The game soft launched in 2023 and released 15 seasons

  • Global launch took place in February 2026

  • Rainbow Six Mobile generated approximately $1.6 million in player spending in its first 14 days after global launch

  • Ubisoft says the development team will move to other long-term strategic projects

Ubisoft will end service for Rainbow Six Mobile on January 15, 2027, roughly 11 months after the tactical shooter's global launch and three and a half years after its 2023 soft launch. The publisher confirmed the date in a message to players, saying the game will remain playable until online services come down.

The shutdown comes despite the title generating approximately $1.6 million in player spending during its first 14 days following the global release in February 2026 — a modest commercial footprint for a Ubisoft mobile release tied to one of the company's most recognized shooter brands.

Why is the game closing now?

Ubisoft framed the decision as a resource reallocation rather than a commercial failure. The company told players the team behind Rainbow Six Mobile will move on to other long-term strategic projects, and that more transition details will arrive in the coming weeks.

"One of the greatest parts of this adventure has been getting to experience it alongside you," Ubisoft wrote in a community post. "We've loved seeing the memes, videos, strategies, tournaments, impossible plays, and all the countless moments that happened because you were here."

The same message stated: "While we are proud of what this team and community have built together, our team will move on to other long-term strategic projects. In the coming weeks, we will share more updates, so you know exactly what to expect and can prepare for the transition."

What happens to current players?

Ubisoft said the next season of Rainbow Six Mobile will launch as planned next week, with subsequent seasons also scheduled to arrive on their existing roadmap. The studio has not yet detailed whether the final months will include accelerated battle pass timing, refund windows for in-app purchases, or migration paths into other Ubisoft titles.

The 15th season of content, which began rolling out under the soft launch, will therefore be among the last major updates shipped before servers go offline.

What does this signal for Ubisoft's mobile strategy?

The closure trims a second live-service mobile entry from Ubisoft's portfolio in recent quarters and reinforces the publisher's stated focus on fewer, larger investments. Internal teams previously working on Rainbow Six Mobile will redistribute across other projects, though Ubisoft has not specified which titles will absorb those developers.

For studio leaders, the headline takeaway is that even a recognized PC and console shooter IP did not translate into a sustainable mobile audience for Ubisoft at this spending scale. The publisher's wider mobile bets — including Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence, which has also faced delays — will indicate whether the company is consolidating around a smaller mobile slate or simply reshaping which teams carry it forward.

What to watch next

  • The transition update Ubisoft has promised "in the coming weeks," including server sunset timing and any in-app purchase guidance.
  • Where the Rainbow Six Mobile development team is reassigned inside Ubisoft's studio network.
  • Whether the publisher confirms additional live-service shutdowns, or conversely accelerates the rollout of other mobile projects still in soft launch.
