New Releases Dominate August PC and Console Revenue Charts

Newzoo's August 2026 charts show Madden NFL 27 at No. 2 on console revenue and Big Walk at No. 3 on PC, while subscriptions and cross-media tie-ins drove sharp MAU gains.

Patch notes

  • EA Sports Madden NFL 27 debuted at No. 2 on console revenue; Big Walk ranked No. 3 on PC in Newzoo's August 2026 Top 20 across six markets.

  • Pokémon Pokopia climbed 21 places on console to No. 7 after its Bubbly Basin DLC, the first of three planned paid updates.

  • Helldivers 2 rose 30 places on console MAU and 14 on PC after joining PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, and jumped from No. 50 to No. 18 on PC revenue.

EA Sports Madden NFL 27 debuted at No. 2 on Newzoo's console revenue chart for August 2026, one of several new releases reshaping the Top 20 across PC and console in the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

House House's co-op title Big Walk ranked No. 3 on the PC revenue chart, while Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Zero Company launched at No. 6 on PC and No. 20 on console. Mortal Shell 2 and Hell Let Loose: Vietnam charted on both platforms.

Other notable debuts include Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls at No. 14 on console, Dazed Games' How to Fish at No. 9 on PC, and Torn Banner Studios' No More Room in Hell 2 at No. 19 on PC.

Fortnite held No. 1 on both revenue charts.

Pokémon Pokopia climbed 21 spots on console, from No. 28 to No. 7, following the release of its Bubbly Basin DLC — the first of three planned paid content updates. For publishers weighing post-launch monetization, that jump underlines how a well-timed paid expansion can move a title back into top-tier revenue territory within a single month.

Newzoo market analyst Mert Şahin noted that Madden NFL 27 "benefited from the strength of a long-running annual franchise, while Star Wars Zero Company combined the visibility of a globally recognised IP with strong reviews and positive word-of-mouth."

The pattern on console is hard to miss: annualized sports franchises occupy four of the top spots, with EA Sports College Football 27 at No. 3, EA Sports FC 26 at No. 4 and NBA 2K26 at No. 16 alongside Madden. Evergreen live-service titles — Fortnite, Roblox, Minecraft, Call of Duty HQ and Grand Theft Auto 5 — fill most of the remaining upper ranks, with Marvel Rivals at No. 10 and Apex Legends at No. 11.

Catalogue titles still surfaced. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 charted at No. 12, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced at No. 13, and Halo: Campaign Evolved at No. 19.

Audience growth came from partnerships, not patches

The revenue charts tell only part of the story. Newzoo's monthly active user (MAU) rankings show that collaborations, cross-media tie-ins and subscription services expanded audiences beyond what traditional game updates delivered.

Fortnite rose to No. 3 in PC MAU rankings and held No. 1 on console. The launch of Chapter 7 Season 4: Override contributed to that growth by adding content from major franchises including Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man and Kingdom Hearts. Şahin notes this supports Epic's strategy "of combining live-service development with high-profile gaming and entertainment partnerships."

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 climbed 12 places to No. 12 in console MAU rankings ahead of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere. A free movie-inspired suit update and a limited-time discount, in Şahin's words, "provided additional incentives for players to return, demonstrating how major entertainment releases can bring players back to games tied to the same franchise."

Subscription placement delivered the sharpest movement. Helldivers 2 jumped 30 places on console and 14 on PC to reach No. 19 in MAU on both platforms after Sony added it to the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogues. It also rose from No. 50 to No. 18 on the PC revenue charts — evidence that subscription inclusion can drive both reach and residual spending.

What it means for studios

Three operational takeaways stand out from August's data. Annualized franchises and globally recognized IP continue to convert visibility into immediate revenue at launch. Paid DLC drops can re-rank a months-old title within weeks, as Pokémon Pokopia's 21-place climb shows. And subscription catalogue placement, cross-media timing and brand collaborations now function as measurable audience-acquisition levers rather than secondary marketing channels.

The next signal to watch: whether the second and third of Pokémon Pokopia's three planned paid content updates sustain that revenue position, and how Fortnite's partnership-driven Chapter 7 Season 4 performs as the season progresses into the autumn charts.
