Fingersoft Ends Lego Hill Climb Adventures Service, Keeps All Staff
Fingersoft will sunset Lego Hill Climb Adventures after purchases end October 23rd, 2026, but is retaining all staff and moving them to a prototyping team for its next games.
Patch notes
In-app purchases in Lego Hill Climb Adventures end October 23rd, 2026.
The game leaves major app stores in December 2026; downloaded copies stay playable into 2027.
Fingersoft confirms zero layoffs — all staff move to a prototyping team for next-generation games.
The game launched globally in 2024, about 18 months after its beta.
The Apple Arcade version, Lego Hill Climb Adventures+, remains available after the base game closes.
Fingersoft will end service on Lego Hill Climb Adventures, but the Finnish studio has confirmed that no employees will lose their jobs as a result of the shutdown. In-app purchases cease on October 23rd, 2026, ahead of the game's removal from major app stores in December, the studio announced.
Players who have already downloaded the mobile title will keep access into next year, and any currency acquired through in-app purchases will remain available to spend. Fingersoft has not stated an exact end date for existing players — its messaging says fans can continue both "into 2027" and "through 2027," leaving the final cutoff deliberately vague.
The shutdown follows a commercial verdict rather than an operational one. According to Fingersoft, the title did not meet the criteria necessary to continue operations.
What happens to the team?
Every staff member attached to the game stays on. Fingersoft has assured that their skills and experience "will continue to play an important role," and the developers now form a prototyping team for what the studio calls the next generation of Fingersoft games.
That stands in contrast to the layoffs that typically accompany mobile live-service closures across the industry. Fingersoft is redirecting headcount into early-stage development rather than cutting it, betting that the team's experience shipping a licensed title with The Lego Group transfers to its next projects.
What changes for players?
The timeline runs in stages:
- October 23rd, 2026 — in-app purchases cease.
- December 2026 — the game is removed from major app store listings.
- Into/through 2027 — the downloaded game stays playable for existing users, with purchased currency still spendable.
One carve-out survives the closure: the Apple Arcade version, Lego Hill Climb Adventures+, remains available to Apple subscribers after the base game shuts down.
A short run for a major license
Lego Hill Climb Adventures launched globally in 2024, roughly 18 months after its beta test began. The title paired Fingersoft's long-running Hill Climb Racing formula with the Lego brand — a high-profile licensing partnership for the Oulu-based studio.
In its announcement, Fingersoft said the game has "meant a lot" to the studio as an opportunity to work with The Lego Group and to explore the brand in a new way. The studio thanked Lego for its trust and thanked fans for their investment in the game, particularly players who worked to solve every in-game mystery.
"Your support, feedback and enthusiasm have meant a lot to us and to the team behind the game. Thank you for joining us on this adventure, and we hope to see you keep climbing," Fingersoft said in the post.
On LinkedIn, the company framed the shutdown more bluntly, calling the situation "a hill too steep to conquer."
For a mobile title carrying one of the most valuable brands in toys, a global launch-to-sunset window of roughly two years underscores how steep the monetization bar remains for mid-scale mobile publishers — even with a marquee license attached.
The precise sunset date for existing players, and details on what Fingersoft's prototyping team produces next, remain the signals to watch through 2027.
