Patch notes

  • Devsisters partners with Big Shot Pictures for a CookieRun feature-length film

  • The film targets a global release in 2029, the original game's 20th anniversary

  • CookieRun has drawn over 350 million players and $1 billion in lifetime revenue, per Devsisters

  • The US accounted for 65% of global CookieRun merchandise sales in 2025

  • CookieRun: Kingdom ranked among YouTube's top 10 US trending topics for 2025

Devsisters has signed Big Shot Pictures to produce a feature-length CookieRun film, targeting a global theatrical release in 2029 to mark the franchise's 20th anniversary.

Big Shot Pictures will lead production, while Devsisters retains involvement in the film's creative direction. The deal extends a transmedia push that already spans multiple game titles, a trading card game, merchandise, and live events.

How big is the IP?

According to Devsisters, CookieRun has attracted more than 350 million players worldwide and generated over $1 billion in lifetime revenue. The franchise now includes CookieRun: Kingdom and CookieRun: Crumble, alongside its physical products.

The US market anchors the brand's offline business. American buyers accounted for 65% of global CookieRun merchandise sales in 2025, according to Devsisters. CookieRun: Kingdom also ranked among YouTube's top 10 US trending topics for 2025 — an unusual position for a mobile title competing against music, film, and creator-driven content.

What are the executives saying?

Devsisters CEO Kilhyeon Cho framed the film as the next stage in the IP's expansion beyond games.

"CookieRun began as a mobile game and has since expanded into new territory, from merchandise and trading cards to live events," Cho said. "Bringing that world to the big screen expands the CookieRun experience in a way no other medium can."

Big Shot Pictures CEO Brian Robbins said the adaptation is designed to serve two audiences at once.

"Expanding this vibrant world beyond mobile screens into cinema allows us to connect with millions of existing fans while introducing the franchise to new global audiences," Robbins said.

What changes for the business?

For Devsisters, the film deal is a bet that theatrical exposure can deepen monetization across the wider IP ecosystem — a playbook already proven by game-derived franchises with strong merchandise legs. With 65% of merchandise revenue concentrated in the US, a globally released film gives the company a channel to convert cinematic awareness into sales in its strongest market and beyond.

The 2029 target aligns the release with the original game's 20th anniversary, giving Devsisters a built-in marketing milestone and a natural window for coordinated game content, merchandise drops, and live events around the premiere.

Neither company disclosed budget figures, distribution partners, or a specific release date within 2029. Casting, director, and distribution announcements will signal how seriously Big Shot Pictures positions the project within its slate — worth watching as production details emerge ahead of the anniversary window.
